New Year, New Goals
It’s the end of another decade and I’m thankful to have lived through all the technological advances and look forward to what this new decade holds for us. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that it has already been 20 years since Y2K. I still remember waiting for the count down on December 31, 1999 and expecting all the computers around the world to crash and the world to fall into disarray. Of course everything turned out fine and here we are today in year 2020.
As with every new year, I try to come up with some new goals for different parts of my life. Instead of something completely unrealistic, I’ve come up with a list that will be achievable. Here are my 5 crafting goals of the year.
COMPLETE THIS WEBSITE – I actually bought this domain a year ago and basically left it empty. With this new year it is my number one goal to finally fill it with new merchandise, project tutorials, and informative blog posts.
MAKE / DESIGN NEW MERCHANDISE – This sounds like it should have been an obvious goal for a crafter as it also ties into the first goal. The biggest problem for me is procrastination. Sometimes I hit mental blocks and put off crafting for days, even weeks. Most of it due to my own insecurities about whether or not my cards will be good enough and being too much of a perfectionist and criticizing my own work. So the real goal here is to BELIEVE IN MYSELF.
ATTEND A CRAFT FAIR – I’ve been saying I’ll attending a craft fair for the last 2 years but have yet made enough products to fill an entire table. This year I will really push myself more to realize that working in a corporate environment is never going to be as free or enjoyable as working for myself. A business is not going to grow unless I put in some effort.
CREATE A CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP – There are so many different holidays in a year and it would be great to host a workshop for children to attend and make something creative. Mother’s day presents, father’s day cards, Canada Day crafts, etc. The end goal would be to eventually create an adult crafting workshop but I want to start with easier projects and work on my patience while teaching kids.
LEARN A NEW CRAFT – Surprisingly, I’ve already started on this one. My first project of the year was to learn how to crochet. I saw a need for a coffee sleeve for my reusable cups and spent some time learning how to make my own reusable sleeves. Already have two completed and have started learning to make flowers to add to the sleeves. The goal is to eventually make scarfs, hats, and dolls.
